Percentage Calculator Methodology
Standard percentage arithmetic: value-of-percent, percent-of-value, percent change.

Formula
X% of Y = (X ÷ 100) × Y | %change = (new − old) / old × 100
Variables
| Symbol | Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| X | Percentage | The percent value (e.g. 25 for 25%). |
| Y | Base value | The number the percent is applied to. |
| old, new | Endpoints | Used in percent-change calculations. |
Worked example
25% of 200 = 0.25 × 200 = 50. Change from 80 to 100 = (100 − 80) / 80 × 100 = 25%.
Assumptions and limitations
Every model leaves something out. Here is what this calculator assumes, and what it does not model, so you can interpret the output honestly:
- Pure arithmetic. No rounding beyond display precision.
